OUR STORY
The SPPSA was founded to give the people who protect South Africa and the communities they serve a real voice where decisions are made.
Walk down almost any street in South Africa and you will find a security officer. They open the gates in the morning and lock them at night. They know which corners are dangerous, which families need help and which businesses are struggling. They are the eyes, ears and feet of our communities.
Yet their knowledge is used for little more than guarding a single building or car park. Their pay is often low, their work is rarely recognised and their voice is almost never heard in government.
Through years of engagement with the private security industry including the Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority (PSIRA) and the True Alliance of Black Security Officers of South Africa (TABSOSA) our founders saw a gap in the representation of security personnel and have found a solution to bring this important cohort of citizens to play a part in the decision making about the future of our country to build strong economies.
The Security Personnel Party of South Africa (SPPSA) was formed as a community-based, political party dedicated to promoting the rights, welfare and economic security of security personnel, while advancing broader national objectives relating to community safety, economic growth, employment creation and national development.
The party’s objective is to build a credible political movement capable of securing representation, influencing policy and providing security personnel and like-minded South Africans with a meaningful voice in democratic decision-making processes.
The SPPSA is not a trade union. It is a registered political party, fully registered with the Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC), established to unite security personnel and other South Africans around a shared vision of security, prosperity, economic renewal and public-interest leadership.

OUR FOUNDING PHILOSOPHY
Walk down almost any street in South Africa and you will find a security officer. They open the gates in the morning and lock them at night. They know which corners are dangerous, which families need help and which businesses are strugglinSouth Africa’s private security sector comprises approximately 2.1 million registered security personnel, with hundreds of thousands actively deployed across communities, businesses, industrial sites, residential areas and public spaces throughout the country.g. They are the eyes, ears and feet of our communities.
Through extensive engagement with the private security industry, including the Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority (PSIRA) and the True Alliance of Black Security Officers of South Africa (TABSOSA), it became evident that security personnel constitute a large and largely underrepresented constituency united by common interests in safer communities, professional recognition, economic opportunity and national development.
The SPPSA was founded on the belief that security is not limited to protection from crime. True security encompasses physical safety, economic stability, employment opportunities, food security, financial wellbeing and community resilience.
Creating safer communities and stronger economies requires practical partnerships between government, communities, businesses and security professionals. By mobilising security personnel and citizens around these objectives, SPPSA seeks to become an influential voice in shaping policies that improve lives and strengthen South Africa’s future.
The organisation was formed on the belief that meaningful change requires active participation in the democratic process and the ability to influence policy through representation at local, provincial and national levels.
WHERE WE ARE NOW
SPPSA is currently established in Gauteng, where we are preparing to contest local government elections. Local government is where safety, services and jobs are felt most directly so it is where we want to prove ourselves first. From there, we will expand province by province before launching a national campaign.
